After getting into a car accident, a high schooler wakes up in the world of her favorite otome game… as none other than the villainess, Catarina Claes ! She decides to do everything she can to avoid the terrible fate the story has in store for her… and changes a couple not so insignificant things in the process.
It’s been ages since I last watched an anime. This one was recommended to me by my brother, who showed me the opening sequence to try and tempt me. Needless to say, it worked very well: just like its main character, the opening of My Next Life as a Villainess is full of warmth, energy and good cheer.
Sunlight
You might have noticed that for once, I didn’t write a quote but a hashtag instead. It’s actually the nickname the fandom has generously and lovingly attributed to the main character: Catarina. Which is understandable: while Catarina certainly isn’t stupid, she’s a warm, simple, straightforward young woman, who also happens to be very, very oblivious.
Seriously, Catarina made me so happy. Not a single second of boredom here, Bakarina made sure of that: you’ll fall for her right off the bat, just like the other characters.
Which is actually what makes My Next Life As a Villainess such a ray of sunlight. I clicked play after a truly horrible day which ended with me in the foulest mood ever, but it hardly took two episodes for me to be grinning like a loon. I kid you not: this show saved my evening, to the point that I ended up chipper and generally happy.
If you need some cheering up, believe me, this anime is what you need. It might not be overly deep—even if there are indeed some heart-wrenching scenes, but it’s pretty, funny and a real good time.
All in All…
Sunlight and energy all wrapped up in a one fun package… I can’t wait to see season 2!
