Qian Yun Xi, eldest daughter of the Prime Minister, grew up in seclusion because of her ability to see ghosts. When her younger sister is set to marry Prince Ye, who is said to be eccentric and tyrannical, Yun Xi’s family forces her to take her younger sister’s place.
You and I do not like each other. It would be best if we did not speak again.
Psychic princess | Tong Ling Fei
Tong Ling Fei is one of two quite similar shows I have mixed feelings about. I will review The Demonic King Chases His Wife later, once I’m done with it, but while I enjoyed Tong Ling Fei, it certainly had its drawbacks.
Bad Blood
The main pillar of this show lies with its headstrong heroine. Qian Yun Xi is in a bad situation all around, surrounded by enemies or unsympathetic figures. She grew up in forced exile because the people who should have loved and supported her believed her an omen of destruction. Married off to a prince who’s said to be cruel just so her sister can escape that fate, she ends up at the mercy of her father’s sworn enemy, a prince who believes her to be a spy sent to watch him. But that’s not all. To add insult to injury, the man in question has concubines who don’t take too well to the new arrival.
Needless to say, she’s not treated well, yet Yun Xi keeps to her principles. With a bright personality (because of course), she’s also smart, determined, principled, and as it turns out, badass in many ways. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see enough of that badassery, although her strength of will in itself could be counted as such, I suppose.
Chilvary is Dead
The male lead, on the other hand, is quite problematic, and so is his relationship with Yun Xi. Why? Because it edges on abusive on many occasions, that’s why. I got uncomfortable so many times watching this show, although I don’t think it ever truly crossed the line. But I suppose it was a little realistic insofar as the prince didn’t start favoring her right away, and kept a healthy amount of distrust towards her that was perfectly justified when you consider where he’s coming from.
To Like or Not to Like
In the end, though this is the slowest burn to ever burn (nah, who am I kidding, nothing can ever top Skip Beat!), those two did have some sweet moments… But only in the last few episodes.
Which is why I am, in fact, very much looking forward to season 2 if they make one, mostly because I think the couple has overcome their mutual distrust for each other. And from what we’ve seen so far, them working together is a thing of beauty, so I can’t wait to see their relationship evolve and bloom from there.
All in All
Tong Ling Fei was a pretty nice time to have. The animation was good, the bright colors were very nice to look at, and the characters have potential. Also, the opening is hilarious, especially in the last episode.
